This bustling restaurant in Cambridge City houses an authentic Arabic atmosphere combined with tasteful, exotic decor and varied Moroccan, Middle-Eastern and Mediterranean cuisine. Our indulgent experience began with a warm welcome from the staff, who happily talked us through the tempting daily specials while we explored the enticing menu (helpfully written in both English and Arabic).

The delicious cold meze platter, with liberal helpings of hummus, aubergines with chilli and garlic, stuffed vine leaves and crisp salad, were all eagerly enjoyed. Alternatively, try the hot meze with crunchy falafel and grilled halloumi. For myself, a main of kofta tajine - comprising spiced lamb and delicate sliced potatoes in a rich aromatic sauce, served with piping hot rice - was a winning choice. My partner indulged in the unique grilled-to-order Arabic-style steak, showered in fragrant 'Sahara sauce'. The flavour was equalled only by the portion size, with ample servings of steakhouse fries or rice to accompany the tender meat. A light and creamy Middle-Eastern dessert of mahalabia, flavoured with coconuts and pistachios, was a fitting end to a wonderful meal. Make sure you try the famed Sahara cocktails and milkshakes - well worth the visit alone. Able to seat up to 70 guests, Sahara is ideal for private events and even offers an optional belly dancer to add to the party atmosphere.
