Restaurant Alimentum has been garnering plaudits since it opened its doors in 2007. With three AA rosettes, a recommendation in the Michelin Guide and places in The Good Food Guide's top 60 and the National Restaurant Awards' top 100 UK restaurants under its belt, Alimentum is a restaurant with a reputation - and live up to it, it does. A talented brigade of chefs, headed by award-winning chef patron Mark Poynton, serves exquisite modern European food. Creative, carefully crafted and very technical dishes adorn the regularly changing, seasonal menus. Highlights include quail ballotine with sweetcorn, popcorn and truffle, stone bass with squid ink, cauliflower and pine nuts, and white chocolate parfait with passion fruit sorbet and marshmallow. Also open for lunch on Sundays, Alimentum is one of the most affordable fine-dining restaurants in the UK. The style does not begin and end with the food. The sleek black-andred decor lends a sophisticated atmosphere to the large entrance bar area and the main restaurant. With live music from local talent every Friday and Saturday night, the bar itself - with its contemporary cocktails and charming staff - is worth a visit on its own.
