70 Newmarket Road, Cambridge, CB5 8DZ
When you walk into The Orchid, you can expect excellent Chinese cooking that showcases authentic dishes not often seen on Western shores. The à la carte boasts a grand selection, including appetisers such as the sea bass and asparagus rolls with wasabi cream, or, from the grill section, specialities like the Xinjiang-style lamb skewers with special cumin chilli. You could also opt for a lighter soup. Mains are similarly original - just try the stir-fried rabbit with green tea leaves - but tried-and-tested favourites like sweet and sour pork and stir-fried chicken in black bean sauce are available too. Meanwhile, seafood aficionados will be sure to enjoy the section of the menu dedicated to the likes of stir-fried sole with mixed Chinese greens.

The Orchid's individuality continues into the special hotpot offering, which is served bubbling away at the table. For £22 per person, diners choose a soup, a dipping sauce and flavouring ingredients, and are then welcome to take as much as they like from the selection of meats, seafood and vegetables to cook to taste in the hotpot.

If your idea of communal fun is away from food, The Orchid has you covered there, too. The KTV (karaoke) rooms that are available to hire come with the latest song choices and are fitted with some of the best sound and lighting systems around, confirming The Orchid as a thoroughly modern venue
