With a counter and shelves fully stocked with a wealth of tempting treats, Harriets has your attention from the moment you enter its traditional environs. Affordable luxury is the name of the game here, with soft carpeted areas and a live pianist, who plays between noon and 2pm, Friday to Sunday, helping to create the most relaxing of settings in which to enjoy your breakfast, lunch or afternoon tea.

Afternoon tea is an important part of life at Harriets; it comes complete with a selection of sandwiches, cakes, patisserie and scones with clotted cream and jam. And to drink, there is, of course, a selection of loose-leaf tea, which includes Harriets own special blends: unique to this fi ne establishment and created by a speciality tea merchant. Should you fancy something a little stronger, a range of bottled beers and house white and red wine are offered. When it comes to food, absolutely everything is made on site from scratch, so that your toasted sandwich, all-day breakfast or cottage pie will always be thoroughly tasty and satisfying.

Bury St Edmunds opened first in 2001, followed by Cambridge in 2012 and the success story looks set to continue with the soon-to-open Norwich café. With both branches conveniently set in their respective town centres, amid all the historic sites and bustle, there's every reason to give Harriets a try next time you have a hankering for a little indulgence
