Middle Eastern and African
Step inside the atmospheric Bedouin, situated just a short walk from their sister restaurant Al Casbah, and you’ll find a slice of North African heaven in Cambridge. Rich tapestry carpets adorn the ceilings and floor, lending a cosy feel and adding splashes of colour to this authentic eatery.
The menu is as vibrant as its surroundings, with colourful plates skilfully put together by the chefs providing a feast for all the senses. The warm bastilla – a brik pastry parcel filled with chicken and spices, topped with icing sugar and cinnamon – was a sweet and satisfying way to start. My partner’s king prawns cooked in spicy tomato sauce were divine, as was the chef’s selection of dips and salads with pitta bread.
Main courses include five delicious tagines and the likes of honey-glazed, oven-roasted chicken accompanied by couscous, and pan-fried fish of the day served with garlic sautéed potatoes and green beans. My lamb cutlets were succulent and paired with a fresh feta and tomato green salad. For pud, we shared a delicious caramelised fig tart. We then relaxed with a fresh peppermint tea and Arabic coffee, commenting on the freshly cooked dishes featuring authentic spices from Algeria.
