Walk into The Sussex Potter and you'll be welcomed by friendly and attentive staff and immersed in its intimate and relaxed atmosphere. The Potter specialises in expertly cooked steaks and, unsurprisingly, their West Country beef is of excellent quality, with a range of premium steaks matured on the bone for at least 28 days. Their menu range is extensive but by no means overwhelming, offering fish, chicken, homemade burgers and other hearty meals to suit most palates and budgets.

We chose to share starters, plumping for the grilled goat's cheese and coconut king prawns, both of which were beautifully presented and generously portioned, along with a 750ml carafe of New Zealand sauvignon blanc (£12.95), which complemented the starters beautifully. For our mains we sampled the 8oz premium cut fillet steak (£18.95), served with the most amazing fries and the Potter's very own onion loaf. The delightful sea bass with their signature iceberg wedge, citrus and chilli dressing and crushed new potatoes (£12.95) was incredibly generous in size and you would be hard pressed to find better quality food in far pricier establishments. Our puddings, a chocolate brownie and an Eton Mess, rounded the meal off perfectly, although the bounteous portions left us fit to burst.

After our meal the kind staff showed us around the rest of the establishment, which was immaculately presented and offered ample dining opportunities for large or small groups, families and couples alike, as well as a bar that is cleverly separated from the dining area with glass partitions, maintaining a light and spacious feel without intruding on your dining experience. The Sussex Potter also boasts a no-smoking alfresco dining area for the summer months.

The quality of the food here speaks for itself and The Sussex Potter has created a praiseworthy dining experience without the enormous price tag. It is definitely somewhere I would visit again.
