Located in the heart of Tarring village, The George & Dragon is a traditional, bustling pub famous for its wide selection of real ales and comprehensive wine list. The menu is just as classical, and it's obvious that the chef puts all of his energy wholeheartedly into the menu. Dishes are superbly cooked, thoughtfully presented and provide excellent value - and there's a choice of changing daily specials to complement the menu further.

The prawn trio is simply delicious, and sees crustaceans battered, wrapped in filo pastry and served with scampi. This arrived at our table along with a generous portion of chunky chips, salad, coleslaw and tangy chilli dressing. The deep-filled steak and button mushroom pie is also fantastic, packed with juicy, tender chunks of meat and rich wine gravy. The dish is served with a variety of well-cooked vegetables, but chips or mash are available too.

The puddings offered are inviting, in particular the homemade sticky toffee pudding - a gooey, sweet treat. For those wanting a sheer cocoa hit, the chocolate brownie sundae comprises large chunks of brownie and plentiful scoops of ice cream. This generosity seemed to serve as a general rule, with all food wholesome and fulfilling and adding to a comfortable, traditional pub experience.
