Waggon & Horses
Pubs and Bars with Restaurants
Stepping into the relaxed interior of the Waggon & Horses, you’ll find a quintessentially British family-run and family-friendly pub. There’s a warm welcome for regulars and visitors alike, and with a lounge bar, restaurant area that can also be converted into a private function room, and al fresco gardens, there’s plenty of space in which to kick back, relax and dine.
At the heart of the venue is a menu that offers excellent value. We started with a prawn cocktail and breaded Camembert, and followed those with two of the specials – a generous bowl of seafood linguine for me, and grilled sirloin steak with mushroom sauce, chunky chips and vegetables for my dining companion. Dessert-lovers are spoilt for choice, with an indulgent selection that changes weekly to provide guests with a variety of options. After two generous courses, we eventually plumped for a shared ice cream sundae; the friendly staff are able to prepare your pudding to go, which is ideal if you’ve over-indulged. With such a lovely atmosphere and great food, it’s no wonder Waggon & Horses is so popular for functions and family gatherings – the Sunday roast is a particular favourite. The kitchen brigade also includes a Thai chef who makes fresh Thai food every other Friday, which is available to eat in or take away.
Music-lovers can look forward to live music acts; there’s always something to enjoy. This 15th-century pub offers hearty, affordable meals in addition to en-suite rooms that are perfect for those exploring historic Great Yeldham and the north Essex area.
