This charming country pub ticks all the right boxes if you are looking for a great meal in beautiful surroundings. Right in the heart of the countryside, The Horse and Groom has established an excellent reputation for providing quality fare at reasonable prices, and it's not hard to see why.

Catering for the casual visitor as well as large parties, this pub and restaurant offers warmth and plenty of appeal, brought about by the oak beams and cosy atmosphere, as well as the friendly staff who do everything to ensure your visit will be a memorable one. Weekends, evenings and theme nights are booked up well in advance, as they are extremely popular with regulars and with those who have heard of the pub's growing reputation for great traditional food. If you're a seafood lover, 'Fish & Chip Night' is an absolute must, with fresh fish collected from Billingsgate Market that morning by Geoff the landlord

Starters are rotated daily, and, like every meal at The Horse and Groom, cooked fresh to order. On visiting we found an excellent selection, from which we chose a delicious leek and potato soup, and king prawns in chilli sauce. The prawns were cooked with know-how, and the chilli sauce gave the dish a real piquancy and heat, kicking off the meal brilliantly. For our main courses we sampled the famous Horse and Groom carvery, popular every Sunday with regulars. We tried a selection of roasted meats, including beef, pork and ham - succulent and expertly cooked. There was a healthy range of vegetables, all beautifully prepared. The roast potatoes were fluffy and light in the centre, with just the right amount of crunch on the outside - a purely pleasurable eat. For dessert, the à la carte menu offered plenty of choice, and we finally settled for the Belgian waffle with toffee ice cream and syrup - the ultimate treat for anyone with a sweet tooth. We also enjoyed a sticky date and ginger pudding, which was light, moist, and disappeared very quickly.

If you're looking for home-cooked food that is fresh and varied, then you must book a visit to The Horse and Groom.
