Five Bells

Mill Lane, Colne Engaine, CO6 2HY

The Five Bells is a family-friendly bar and restaurant with a long history. Records of registered landlords date back to 1579, but it’s likely that it was in business before then. It’s situated on the edge of the picturesque Colne Valley, and the stunning views can be enjoyed from a lovely terrace.

Expect freshly prepared British food crafted with locally sourced ingredients, accompanied by a great selection of real ale and wine. The bar has comfy seating, a log burner, a large-screen TV, a pool table and darts, should you wish to indulge. The partially covered terrace provides outdoor seating come rain or shine. There are a number of guest ales on tap, which frequently change to offer plenty of variety, while old favourites such as Adnams Southwold Bitter and Visor are always available. In the adjoining barn, you’ll find the recently refurbished restaurant, which has been sensitively updated to retain its historic charm and wooden beams. This area can seat parties of up to 14 at a time on one table, or more if it is being used for a function.

The food offering at the Five Bells is quintessentially British, with a fine selection of classics such as ham, egg and chips, fish and chips, and sausage and mash, as well as varied daily specials. The menus change regularly to ensure that you’re never short of choice. The team can ably cater for vegetarian and vegan diners, in addition to gluten-free diets.
