The Cock Horse Inn can be found at the top of Church Street, in the heart of historic Lavenham – a town famed for its 15th-century church and charming period architecture. The inn takes its name from the storied cock horse that was stabled opposite the Church of St Peter and St Paul, and which helped the townspeople to haul heavy goods up to the top of the hill.

Cosy, welcoming, and boasting a beautiful and clean modern interior, The Cock Horse Inn offers everything you might expect from a traditional British pub. This is complemented by fantastic locally sourced and freshly prepared fare that is generously portioned and cooked to order.

We began with tiger prawns in garlic butter, and warm goat’s cheese and beetroot salad. For mains, we enjoyed chargrilled venison steak with caramelised onion mash, plum purée, Port gravy and seasonal vegetables; and roast squash and pine nut linguine with basil cream sauce, Parmesan and garlic bread. For dessert, we savoured toffee popcorn cheesecake with blueberry compote, and croissant bread and butter pudding with custard. Service was prompt and friendly; all of the inn’s staff are either long-term Lavenham residents or have close ties to the area, making them the perfect guides for local insight and information.
