Baker Street, Farthinghoe, NN13 5PH
Gorgeously furnished with smart features and understated, muted tones, the Fox at Farthinghoe is a stylish oasis for hungry diners and those looking for a thirst-quenching beverage. There's a wide range of ales, lagers and spirits from the Wells & Young's brewery - which focuses on quality and consistency, and expert cellar management - as well as regular guest ales. As for the food, you'll find delicious steaks on the menu - 28-day dry-aged - alongside free-range pork, chicken and eggs. Enjoy a wrap, sandwich or seafood special at lunch, or pop in for curry night, or ladies night perhaps.

The team sources as much as possible from local suppliers, believing that their trust in suppliers translates to the customer's trust in them. Perhaps try smoked salmon blinis served with horseradish cream and caper butter, before moving onto smoked haddock kedgeree with curried rice and poached egg, or glazed Cotswold ham. Apple fritters with caramel and rum and raisin ice cream will provide the ideal end to your meal, as will lemon posset with shortbread for dipping - irresistible. Want to stay overnight? Nobody could blame you with such charming surroundings. Luckily, the Fox has four lovely en-suite bedrooms located in the old barn adjoining the main building.
