The Navigation Inn
The Navigation Inn is located on the banks of the Grand Union Canal near the village of Cosgrove, just a short drive from Milton Keynes. Known locally as The Navi, this stylish, family-friendly pub dates back to 1822 when it was built as part of what was effectively a canalside service station. Boasting a choice of comfortable seating both inside and out, and spectacular views of the canal and the surrounding countryside, The Navigation Inn is a destination pub that’s worth seeking out at any time of year. On a crisp winter’s morning the picturesque views are best enjoyed from the comfort and warmth of the restaurant with a delicious breakfast and newspaper. When the weather gets warmer, head outside to the terrace and you’ll find that there’s no better place from which to watch the breathtaking sunset across the canal whilst sipping a tasty cocktail with friends.
Thanks to a crowd-pleasing menu that changes throughout the day, you’re sure to find a suitable offering no matter when you call in. Start the day right with a hearty breakfast or brunch – the toasted Belgian waffle served with smoked bacon and lashings of maple syrup is understandably popular. Lunch options see the likes of Italian puccia bread sandwiches filled with a selection of tempting options, including grilled chicken and rocket with kale and pumpkin seed pesto. In the evening you’ll find a range of lighter bites, pasta dishes and salads alongside a superb choice of à la carte meals from a menu that exclusively uses British meat, poultry and free-range eggs, responsibly sourced fish and seasonal fruit and vegetables. Thanks to an open, theatre-style kitchen, guests can watch their order being freshly prepared in front of them. The mouth-watering aroma of hand-crafted Neapolitan pizzas baking in the traditional wood-burning oven mingles with those of fresh ingredients being grilled over charcoal, to bring the flavours of Venice’s Grand Canal to the Grand Union Canal at Cosgrove.
Parties of 20 to 40 people can enjoy private use of The Wardroom, which overlooks the canal and has its own kitchen, bar and private outdoor terrace. No matter what your reason for visiting, the attentive staff and cordial atmosphere will ensure your visit is memorable for all the right reasons.
