Nestled discreetly in the popular West Bridgford precinct, sporting pleasant views over the park and located just a ten-minute walk from Trent Bridge Cricket Ground, the West End Cabaret & Restaurant is a rare find.

Formerly The Dancing Slipper, the West End is owned by the Neaves family - also proprietors of the Radcliffe Arms at Bunny. Head chef Christopher Neaves is firmly following in his father Mervyn's footsteps; Mervyn trained as a chef at the George Hotel in Nottingham when it was owned by the Duke of Rutland. Having played host to renowned greats such as Hot Chocolate and The Stylistics, the venue also regularly boasts a highly popular cabaret. In fact, if you wish to experience it on a Saturday evening, you should note that the cabaret requires around a three-month pre-book - evidence enough that it is more than worth the wait. Serving carvery food exclusively, the Neaves have it down to a fine art, sporting both the usual favourites and an unusual selection of meats - on occasion game such as pheasant or goose. I can especially recommend the chef's own gorgeous speciality coq au vin, so succulent that the chicken literally falls from the bone. A wide array of imaginatively prepared, locally sourced fresh vegetables generously complement the food, with their striking colours and original, surprising flavours. Unusual presentations such as piquant shredded red cabbage and vibrant swede and pepper mash are delightful. The choice of five desserts is equally tempting and, true to form, the fresh fruit salad offers a fantastic variety of flavoursome fruit. The carvery varies in price and selection throughout the week. The midweek two-course carvery is a particular fiscal favourite at an astonishing £6.25.

This is a carvery with a difference. With its incredible selection of good quality, enjoyable food, reasonably priced and creatively prepared, and the option of entertainment to boot - provided by quality management who just happens to be The Dreamers' drummer, Ray Martin - the West End Cabaret & Restaurant could easily be your dream come true.
