Venezia offers a traditional and comfortable dining experience with a warm family-friendly feel. The restaurant is surrounded by parkland and woodland, situated in the grounds of the former Saxondale Hospital. It’s a pretty building with a light and airy interior styled to an elegant yet modern standard, with stunning chandeliers and large Victorian mirrors.
The talented and passionate head chef Salvatore Bartollota has a wealth of experience that’s evident in his popular menus and beautifully presented dishes. He has trained in Michelin-starred kitchens alongside talented chefs and worked at award-winning venues including the five-star Grand Hotel in Sicily. His unique approach to Italian cooking has earned Venezia a loyal local following.
For a perfectly proportioned starter packed with flavour, sample pan-fried sardines flavoured with olive oil, lemon juice, balsamic and oregano, served with Italian bread. You might follow with papardelle pasta with smoked duck breast, brandy, porcini mushrooms, garlic, butter, rosemary and rich demi-glace. Seafood-lovers will delight in linguine in a creamy white wine sauce comprising crabmeat, chilli, garlic, parsley and cherry tomatoes. From freshly made pasta to risotto, pizza and hearty meat and fish dishes, there’s something for everyone on this extensive menu. Daily specials showcase the best seasonal produce and allow Salvatore to keep things fresh and exciting for his returning customers.
Every day between 4.30pm and 6.30pm Venezia offers two-for-one pizzas and pasta dishes, and under-12s eat free every Sunday when ordering from the separate children’s menu. A great Sunday lunch offering of two courses for £14.95 and three for £18.95 between noon and 4pm is a highly recommended weekend treat.
If you’re visiting on a sunny day, there’s plenty of outside seating, which is ideal for al fresco dining. The restaurant comfortably seats 100 people, but boasts an intimate feel perfect for romantic dinners and larger celebrations. If you’re just stopping by for drinks and nibbles, a cosy bar area is the perfect place to relax and while away an evening.
