Perkins Bar & Bistro
Established in 1982, Perkins is a relaxed countryside bar and bistro in Plumtree, just outside of Nottingham. Owned and operated by the Perkins family since the beginning, Perkins serves a unique combination of modern British and classic bistro dishes. Housed in a beautifully restored Victorian village railway station, the restaurant’s interior features rustic tables as well as bar and bistro-style seating, warmly lit by smart brass light fittings and finished with reclaimed textiles and soft furnishings.
Perkins has become a haven for foodies as all produce is brought in daily. All dishes are created in-house using freshly sourced, local ingredients wherever possible, from their incredible home-smoked salmon and freshly baked bread to delicious desserts and ice creams. The bistro is open for lunch every day. In addition to the main à la carte menu, it offers a great-value prix-fixe lunch from Monday to Friday for just £13.50 for two courses. An extremely popular Sunday lunch is available from noon until 5pm – don’t miss out on the traditional roast comprising local meats from the farm nearby.
The main menu changes regularly, but stand-out starters include seared king scallops with artichokes, sticky smokehouse ribs, and wild mushroom and tarragon risoni with truffle. For a hearty main course, the sumptuous flavour of pork and classic salmon, prawn and monkfish Thermidor are both exceptional. The menu is balanced with more relaxed sharing starters and bistro bites such as plaice goujons with pea purée, and classic moules frites. The bistro’s wine list features 60 bins, superb aperitifs and unique gins and cocktails, alongside local draught beer.
Perkins also offers freshly prepared afternoon teas, Saturday breakfasts, and regular smokehouse and blues nights every Friday, when live music is paired with treats from Perkins’ very own smokehouse. Afternoon tea is very popular and requires 24 hours’ notice. On the first Wednesday of every month Perkins hosts a Taste the Season evening where a six-course seasonal menu is available for just £26. Themed nights showcase food from the Middle East, Spain and Greece.
In 2017 Perkins added accommodation in the form of three luxury shepherd huts with incredible views over the surrounding countryside. Lovingly handcrafted from sustainable materials, each hut has been carefully decorated with natural tones and splashes of colour to create a warm and luxurious vintage feel.
