The majestic Colwick Hall Hotel stands grandly in the midst of 60 acres of preened parkland. Grade II* listed, this stunning mansion has a long and fascinating history, having been mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 and once the home of the celebrated poet, Lord Byron. In recent years Colwick Hall has been beautifully restored to its rightful full glory. Each room simply exudes elegance - and Colwick's restaurant, Georgetown, is no exception.

Housed in the lovely front dining room, Georgetown Restaurant serves an exciting mix of Malaysian and modern British cuisine, created using first-class ingredients. Before settling at one of the tables dressed with crisp, white cloths and set with gleaming wine glasses and polished cutlery, savour an aperitif from the comprehensive bar selection and make use of the comfortable lounge area.

The menu offers a select but varied choice of starters. Perhaps begin with the field mushroom topped with smoked bacon and blue cheese, or maybe you'd prefer to sample the more exotic murtabak - a pastry parcel of beef mince served with a drizzle of refreshing cucumber yoghurt. To follow, the main courses will more than live up to the high standards firmly established by the starters. Picture yourself being presented with the likes of rib-eye of beef, lying atop sea-salted potato wedges with a black pepper sauce, or possibly a slow-cooked loin of pork, prepared with a vibrant blend of spices and served with lime-flavoured rice. The delicious line-up continues with indulgent desserts - think apple and raspberry crumble with creme anglaise and rich chocolate pot with orange shortbread.

It's not just the à la carte choice that's of interest at Georgetown though; the lunch menu is packed with enticing lighter dishes, while the special set menu offers affordable luxury - advanced booking is a must. The rich, succulent Sunday roasts are also a delight not to be missed. If you're not after a full meal, then perhaps the afternoon tea selection - featuring fresh sandwiches, cakes and scones, as well as several varieties of tea and coffee - can tempt you. There couldn't be more fitting surroundings in which to practice this classic British custom than Colwick Hall. All of this along with professional, accomplished service means that each minute you spend at Georgetown Restaurant is one to be savoured
