This historic 16th-Century coaching inn is a family-run restaurant where the pride and enthusiasm the owners have for both the restaurant and the building itself is obvious as soon as you step through the door. The inn underwent a refurbishment in 2006 which certainly did it justice, uncovering some delightful original features that have been respectfully incorporated into the new decor. A clever blend of the modern and the traditional runs throughout the inn - contemporary wooden tables and leather chairs sit comfortably alongside bare-bricked walls and exposed beams.

All the food served is made using locally sourced produce and the main menu features classic yet inspired dishes. The starter of warm fresh beetroot with grilled goat's cheese drizzled with balsamic glaze provides the perfect opener. To follow, try the oven-roasted salmon served with mussels in a white wine, cream and garlic sauce - just one of the superb main courses available. The Rancliffe also offers sandwiches, baguettes, panini and salads for those dropping by for a tasty lunch, as well as a fantastic carvery, for which booking is always advised. This already delightful coaching inn has been rendered even more charming through its clever renovation - this, combined with the friendly feel and fantastic food, means its ever-increasing popularity is certainly no surprise.
