Bramcote Lane, Wollaton, Nottingham, NG8 2QQ
Six months after a dramatic refurbishment of this pub and restaurant in Wollaton, the Hemlock Stone has certainly drawn in a whole new clientele, alongside their already loyal customers. And rightly so. This fantastic eatery sits nestled in the suburban area of Wollaton, just outside Nottingham city centre.

The stylish, soothing decor echoes the fabulous new menu and warm ambience that the Hemlock Stone now has to offer. Relaxing natural colours display subtle cameo artwork and quirky modern chandeliers in the dining room, which looks out onto their alfresco dining area, currently adorned with an abundance of twinkling white lights.

Your visit will no doubt begin with a smile and welcome from the young and very well-informed staff. Fresh warm bread with oil and olives, and a glance at their extensive and impressive wine list will settle you in for a truly fantastic dining experience. The Hemlock Stone's wine list provides quality classics such as chardonnay and pinot grigio at around £16.50 a bottle to a Chablis at £45. Several choices of rosé and sparkling wines are available from £19 or you can partake of a bottle of Dom Perignon for a special occasion. The choice is certainly not limited when it comes to beers, ciders and soft drinks, with a pleasing array of Belvoir presses and organic juices.

The exciting dishes, which are primarily modern British with European influences, include tian of crab with avocado and herb salad, roasted diver scallops or a delicious homemade soup of the day, and start at just £4.

For those with a more traditional palate a homemade Trentside grazed beef burger with crispy pancetta and onion marmalade or fresh crispy beer-battered cod with hand-cut chips and, of course, mushy peas will no doubt satisfy. For those with more adventurous tastes, char sui lamb cutlets, spiced Thai chicken salad with mint and coriander, or roasted sea bass with garlic mash are all exquisitely prepared and presented, and are wonderful value for money at around the £11 to £12 mark.

Booking at Hemlock Stone is definitely advisable due to its ever-growing popularity, particularly for their outstanding Sunday roast lunch menu, which includes roast sirloin of Trentside beef with a generous helping of homemade Yorkshire pudding, roast stuffed belly pork from Sherwood Forest Farm with fresh apple sauce, or roast leg of lamb with fresh mint, all priced at just £8.95.

The Hemlock Stone also caters well for vegetarians and has tempting side dishes such as butternut squash with coriander or cauliflower mornay. The menu is changed every three months in accordance with local and seasonal produce, so you can visit time and time again and always be pleasantly surprised.
