Nottingham Road, Nottingham, NG8 6AX
Situated just off Junction 26 of the M1, The Nuthall is easy to find and proved a welcoming sight after our long drive one rainy evening. A potted thyme plant sits on each table in the dedicated restaurant area - a fragrant and rather lovely touch. The same degree of attention to detail was evident throughout our entire meal. Our waitress was friendly, efficient and knowledgeable; her excellent service made our evening a relaxing and enjoyable one.

The menu offers some adventurous dishes, perhaps most notably the venison carpaccio. Served with beetroot, parsnip purée, parsnip chips and walnut, this inspired dish featured a medley of earthy flavours. The venison was from a local butcher (ingredients are locally sourced where possible) and was melt-in-the-mouth tender. My main course was a lobster and fennel bisque which contained an abundance of fresh seafood and was served with a Gruyère crouton on the side. We also tried the pork goulash, which packed a pleasant paprika-flavoured punch. Pudding was an irresistible treacle tart and a well-executed cheeseboard served with homemade onion jam.

The pub also offers a well-priced early bird menu which is incredibly popular. Combining great value with efficient, friendly service and a warm, inviting atmosphere, The Nuthall's success is easy to understand
