CAST Restaurant Bar and Deli
Nottingham Playhouse, Wellington Circus, Nottingham, NG1 5AF
Beneath the gleaming Sky Mirror by the Nottingham Playhouse, CAST is a stylish and modern restaurant with stunning yet simple décor. The venue offers a warm, comfortable environment that's great for small and large parties alike, and is ideal paired with a trip to the theatre, but the exceptional food makes it well worth a visit anytime. CAST promises a modern British take on world cuisine and the menu is wide and varied enough to suit all tastes, from traditional to exotic. Each meal offers carefully considered complementary flavours, appealing to the eye as well as the taste buds. The starters come artistically arranged on the plate, from the colourful maple-cured salmon with orange, pecan nut and mustard cress salad, to the confit of duck leg served on a plinth of crunchy carrot salad. Both were washed down with a lovely Californian white wine. Our main courses were exciting twists on classic meals. We sampled the rump of lamb with a claret and black truffle jus; nutmeg and thyme-infused chicken breast; and roast breast of duck with root vegetable mash, shallot, and clementine sauce. All very satisfying indeed. The more unusual fresh gnocchi with butternut squash, brie, and pine nut cream sauce was as original as it was refreshing. If two courses aren't enough to fill you up, the puddings, liqueurs, and other after-dinner drinks are delightfully adventurous and a great way to end a fabulous meal. Certainly, a star-studded 'CAST' was on display during our visit. Marvellous.
