The Angel at Spinkhill
This delightful independent pub showcases classic British dishes with superb modern twists. Pop by for a tasty supper and sample the Yorkshire Blue cheese and caramelised onion tart. You might follow this with sausage and bubble and squeak paired with crisp onion rings, redcurrant gravy and a refreshing local ale. Alternatively opt for pan-fried salmon with pea and mint risotto, adorned with Parma ham crisps. Those with a sweet-tooth might indulge in ginger and rhubarb crème brûlée, or push the boat out entirely with a tropical Knickerbocker Glory – coconut and banana ice cream, mango sorbet and chocolate shards, topped off with a generous swirl of whipped cream.
The team at The Angel prides itself on offering something different, by stocking unique brands like Brockmans gin, which they serve over ice, with tonic water and a twist of grapefruit peel. This cherished pub was on the brink of being taken over by property developers when it was was rescued by the local community. It’s now run by Chris and Jean Norfolk, under whose care it has become the buzzy, convivial spot you see today. There’s always something going on, like fish nights and popular gin tastings. On the weekend you can restore yourself with a tasty cooked brunch and a bloody Mary, or tuck into an exceptional, hearty Sunday lunch.
