A warm welcome awaits you from owners Kathryn and Brett at The Willow Tree, near Newark on Trent. Within easy reach of the A1 and A17, this 18th-Century, oak-beamed English village free house serves traditional cask-conditioned ales and high-quality, freshly prepared food.

No matter when you visit, Kathryn will be there to look after you front-of-house, and Brett will be in the kitchen preparing your meals with care. The bar will usually offer a beer from Lincolnshire's Batemans Brewery as well as a changing choice of guest ales. Local produce is integral to the menu, with beef from a nearby farm providing steaks for the chargrill as well as the filling for the huge, individual steak and ale pies. Sunday lunches always include rib-eye of local beef, slowly roasted to give the best flavour; local pork and chicken are often available too. Only Lincolnshire potatoes are used for The Willow Tree's twicefried chips - all peeled and chipped by hand. On the dessert menu you will find homemade ice cream and a varying selection of traditional puddings, plus an all-English cheese board, including local specialities such as Colston Basset Stilton and Lincolnshire Poacher.

The kitchen is closed on Sunday evening, when The Willow Tree hosts its popular and entertaining quiz night, which, like The Willow Tree in general, is a whole lot of fun.
