Set overlooking 13 acres of breathtaking parkland in Carr Bank Park, Portland Hall Hotel is a beautiful Grade II listed Georgian mansion built in 1805 on the threshold of Sherwood Forest. New owners Ivan and Isabelle Colls have brought a real touch of something special to this beautiful hotel and restaurant, which is licensed for civil weddings, and with such a beautiful backdrop there is no better place to hold your special day. The à la carte menu is served every evening (except Sunday) from 7pm, and booking is recommended for this popular time. Expect classic starters such as the chef's homemade soup, a light zesty Florida cocktail with Mandarin oranges and grapefruit, and smooth chicken liver paté served with toast. Find traditional pub grub on the main course menu - the slow-cooked lamb shank with red wine and rosemary jus is out of this world. There's a selection of mouth-watering traditional hot and cold desserts on offer too for those with a sweet tooth. Head down on a Friday evening and indulge in the special table d'hote menu, which consists of three courses including wine, with a great selection of homemade and traditional desserts and puddings, for just £9.95. Portland Hall are noted for their carvery as well, which features every lunchtime and is a must on Sundays, when you can get a three-course lunch, including the carvery for only £10.95. The carvery is also available for evening parties, guaranteed to make any gathering extra special. To find the hotel from Mansfield town centre, take the A60 to Worksop then, immediately after the first pedestrian crossing, turn right into Nursery Street and Windmill Lane is 50 yards along on the left. Being located in Carr Bank Park means that the hotel has an aspect that is second to none in north Nottinghamshire.
