Andaz Rana is the man behind the elegant Mumbai Inn, a new restaurant that's set to wow diners with a diverse menu that sports a wide choice of tandoori dishes, vegetarian options and traditional Indian and Nepalese meals.

We began with poppadoms and typical Indian accompaniments that went down well with Khukuri, a premium Nepalese lager. What followed for me was a delicious starter of fish koliwada, consisting of crispy pieces of tilapia with a lightly spiced, herby coating, while my husband enjoyed a Mumbai Magic Tikka - the touch of magic was the deliciously different inclusion of barbecued duck breast.

It being a cold evening when we visited, we leant towards the Nepalese speciality dishes in the hope of hearty and warming main courses. The Gurkhali lamb more than succeeded in this regard, and the use of Mumbai Inn's quality blend of spices really added to the overall flavour.

As our plates were cleared from the table and hot towels to refresh ourselves presented, we perused the dessert selection. A pistachio kulfi from the extensive ice cream list proved a perfect choice to finish, rounded off by a tall glass of creamy coffee laced with Nepalese rum.

If the meal we experienced was anything to go by, Mr Rana and his team are likely in for a long stay at 1 De Montfort Street
