After decades of experience in the hospitality business, Mr Gosai opened Sharmilee Sweetmart nearly 40 years ago. Offering authentic handmade Indian sweets, the shop steadily grew in popularity, and now this family-run business also includes a buffet and Sharmilee Vegetarian Restaurant. Here, diners can enjoy exciting fare from across India, as well as Indo-Chinese cuisine.

The interesting menu offers diners a wealth of unique dishes to sample. Perhaps begin with the fresh vegetable, potato and spinach kebabs with dried spices and homemade chutney, or paneer tikka, featuring Indian cheese marinated in tandoori sauce. To follow, mains of baingan bartha (soft baked aubergine cooked in tomatoes and select spices) and masala dosa (thin, crispy pancake generously filled with potatoes and onions, served with sambar soup and coconut chutney) prove the expert skill of the kitchen staff.

For dessert, the sweetmart offers an extensive variety of exotic treats. Genuine Indian delights like kaju katli - a combination of cashews and cardamom wrapped in edible silver foil - and the coconut or chocolate barfis will excite the tastebuds. Sharmilee deserves its glowing reputation and I urge you to visit and discover all this fantastic establishment has to offer. The team are also available for outside catering such as weddings and party bookings, providing yet more opportunities to try their wares.
