99 High Street, Leicester, LE1 4JB
The Orange Tree, housed in a deceptively large building that was once the Magistrate's court (one of the cells left in the basement is said to be haunted) has been open for a very successful nine years. The building is listed, preventing extensive remodeling and leaving the historical aspect intact.

The Orange Tree serves the dual roles of eatery and pub, allowing drinkers to mingle freely with diners. Food is served throughout the day from noon until 7pm and table bookings are more than welcome. The space reverts to a pub when dining has finished, and the policy is strictly over-18s only - even for food - so it's a great place to relax without the kids.

Freshly made to order from the finest ingredients, meals range from light bites such as home-made soup, pâté and the indulgent smoked salmon, king prawn and avocado stack (£2.75 to £6.95) to the full menu. Sweet roasted vegetable penne, peppered sea bass and trio of lamb chops are just a few of the delights on offer - check out for full details of the extensive menu, including the weeklychanging specials.

The Orange Tree also offers the ever-popular Proper Sunday Roast, so for just £6.95 per person you can forget the pots and pans and let The Orange Tree take care of everything.

The décor, reminiscent of Mexico, includes stripped wood floors and scrubbed wood tables; the art on the walls is thoroughly modern and the piped music easy to listen to. The Orange Tree is definitely a place for the young - or at least the young at heart - who are looking for a tasty drink and a reliably good meal.
