If you're looking for something completely original and undeniably luxurious, then you must visit Maiyango. This 14-bedroom four-star hotel, with its exclusive terraced Glass Bar and gorgeous AA-rosetted Moroccan-inspired restaurant, has made quite an impact on Leicester's city centre. Thanks to its outstanding service and inventive, contemporary fusion cuisine, Maiyango has gained a deservedly excellent reputation. The Times named it one of the top eight places to eat out in England, and it recently won two gold awards at the regional Enjoy England Excellence Awards, in the 'Small Hotel' and 'Taste of the Region' categories.

Service in the restaurant is professional and attentive. Colourful silks adorn the ceiling and walls, creating a sense of romance and warmth, while ambient world music makes for an intriguing atmosphere. Executive chef Phillip Sharpe has created a delightfully eclectic à la carte menu focusing on fresh, seasonal produce and inspired by his travels in Asia, Africa and South America. Starters include spiced parsnip and apple soup with mascarpone and chive tortellini, and smoked guinea fowl, mango and ham hock terrine. As for main courses, you might pick spiced halibut and slow-roasted pork belly with smoked parsnip purée, balsamic apple and caper sauce. The sweet-toothed diner may opt for tonka bean creme brulée or mocha fondant with salted caramel ice cream. There's also a fantastic six-course taster menu offering a little bit of everything from the à la carte menu.

Open all day for drinks, Maiyango is the ideal place to celebrate or enjoy a leisurely cocktail with friends. Before you visit, be sure to call and reserve one of the snug private wooden booths; these are often booked up weeks in advance. All dishes are prepared by the award-winning kitchen team and ingredients are sourced locally, so you can trace your food back to its origins and banish all guilt about unnecessary food miles. An extension of the 'Maiyango loves local' campaign, the Maiyango Kitchen Deli works closely with independent allotment owners to create mouth-watering daily dishes to take away, and offers bread baked on-site, along with a range of cooking ingredients and foodie gifts. Maiyango also has a gallery space for exclusive hire - beautiful artwork adorns the walls and floor-to-ceiling windows open out onto the hotel's wrap-around terrace, offering inspiring views across Leicester's skyline.
