Goodwood’s exciting restaurant – Farmer, Butcher, Chef – is the final stage of a meticulously controlled process designed to showcase their exceptional home-grown meat. Residing on the same site where Goodwood has entertained guests since 1780, it offers diners a warm and friendly atmosphere in which to enjoy incredible food.
Farmed by the family for over 300 years, Goodwood is the only completely self-sustaining organic farm in Europe. Their organic principles enable them to produce the best-tasting beef, pork and lamb, all of which are reared on Home Farm, just around the corner from the restaurant, allowing every aspect of the produce to be carefully controlled. Their butcher is directly involved in designing dishes according to what cuts are available, rather than the other way around. This original approach means nothing is wasted, the quality and provenance of the meat are maintained and they achieve the best yield they possibly can from their livestock.
The head chef and his team are innovative and imaginative, and it’s this creativity that has garnered the restaurant plenty of recognition. Isabella Raccagna, who is chef de partie at Farmer, Butcher, Chef was awarded Young Chef of the Year in the 2019 Sussex Food and Drink Awards - the first female chef to have won the prestigious accolade. The frequently changing and exciting menu celebrates seasonal English produce, making the most of carefully selected ingredients from local suppliers in addition to their own fare.
The warm and welcoming restaurant was designed by Cindy Leveson and has a comfy and quirky interior reminiscent of Goodwood’s heritage, with numerous hand-picked ornaments and memorabilia from across the estate. A huge open fireplace adds to the relaxed and inviting atmosphere. The bar is the perfect place to sit back, unwind and enjoy a glass of whatever takes your fancy. The team creates fabulous cocktails made with local spirits and infused with estate herbs, but you could also try one of the award-winning Goodwood craft beers. An excellent wine cellar offers plenty of wine by the glass, featuring delightful English wine from nearby estates.
Whether you are popping in for a drink and light bite, want a relaxed Sunday lunch or fancy a fun evening out, Farmer, Butcher, Chef is a great choice.
