Café Roma is an inviting café bar on the edge of Leicester's cultural quarter. Whether you're dropping in for early morning coffee, lunch, or an evening meal you'll be sure to discover wholesome food that's excellent value for money. A family-run business, Café Roma opened 15 years ago and serves authentic homemade Italian food. The menu offers bruschetta, salads, pastas, pizzas, and house specials - all at prices that will delight. All produce is fresh and sourced from nearby Leicester Market, and meat comes from the local butcher, so there's no need to fret about unnecessary food miles. On arriving at Café Roma we found a table, and took in our surroundings while we deliberated over what to order - the café's walls are decorated with all things Italian. My dining companion had polpette Roma - homemade meatballs nestling in a deliciously rich red wine sauce with tomatoes, olives and red peppers. I chose penne arrabiata - tangy and very tasty. Servings are generous - but we couldn't resist sharing a piece of gorgeous, homemade lemon polenta cake for dessert. Café Roma is proud of its reputation for serving good coffee - just one reason why they have so many returning customers - and it also makes the ideal place for a pre-theatre meal (their evening menu is served from 5.30pm until 9pm); a choice of traditional Italian wines and liqueurs are available to complement your meal. But there's more: if you dine between noon and 5.30pm you can enjoy a pasta dish, a portion of garlic bread and a drink for just £6.
