The Windmill Inn
Brascote, Newbold Verdon, Leicester, LE9 9LE
Steve Bazeley and head chef Alan Morgan make a great team and have brought a wealth of creative expertise together in order to transform The Windmill Inn. Since taking ownership in summer 2012, they have created an establishment offering superb and imaginative cuisine within a traditional, rustic setting. Their passion for using local and seasonal produce and their commitment to producing innovative dishes are certainly reflected in the menu, which changes regularly. We plumped for the spiced parsnip soup and warm Camembert and walnut spring roll to start. My companion then savoured the braised brisket of beef with root vegetables in puff pastry, which was extremely tender and boasted a succulent, soft, melt-in-the-mouth texture. My sea bream on chive mash with creamy white wine sauce was cooked to perfection and the combination worked perfectly. Choosing between the delectable homemade desserts took some time, but we finally opted for a delicious baked clementine and Cointreau cheesecake and, as it was nearing the festive season, Christmas pudding with a brandy and stem ginger cream. Both were immaculately presented and can only be described as the stuff of foodies' dreams. A visit to the charming hamlet of Brascote is highly recommended - such fabulous food is a must and you certainly won't be disappointed.
