Ye Olde Nag's Head

This 17th-Century coaching inn has beamed ceilings, exposed stone walls, open fires and fabulous views over Hope Valley - everything you would expect from a traditional pub and more. The menu offers excellent pub fare, including many vegetarian choices, stone-baked pizzas, a children's menu and à la carte delights, with further choice provided by a specials board. I couldn't resist the Stilton and whisky paté with red onion marmalade - a heavenly combination. My friend selected a baked field mushroom with a Stilton and herb crust, which demonstrated choice produce used to delicious effect. She continued with juicy pan-fried salmon fillet on a warm Mediterranean salad with new potatoes and intense sunblushed tomatoes and olives, while I went for an exemplary slow-roasted lamb shank on a bed of mash, with a variety of crisply cooked fresh vegetables. Finishing on a high note with delicate creme brulée and Eton Mess, we left two very satisfied, very full diners - marvellous
