The New Golden Dragon
It’s not often you come across a thriving Chinese restaurant housed in a traditional pub, but that’s exactly where you’ll find The New Golden Dragon. The two businesses work in perfect harmony, sharing the premises of The Woodroffe Arms; the welcoming Li family serves delicious Chinese, Thai and British meals in the pub-restaurant.
Diners are spoilt for choice thanks to an extensive menu that features Cantonese favourites including char siu roast pork and chow mein dishes, as well as regional specialities that incorporate the likes of roast duck and salt and pepper fish. Crisp prawn toast and delicious spring rolls proved the perfect appetisers when we visited. I chose plump king prawns in sweet and fragrant Thai red curry to follow, while my guest sampled the chef’s special of sesame chicken in tangy honey and lemon sauce – both dishes are immensely popular among diners, for good reason.
Everything is cooked fresh to order at The New Golden Dragon, so the chefs are more than happy to adapt dishes to accommodate intolerances and allergies. The restaurant’s range of banquet menus make it the perfect place for parties large and small, and speciality dishes are available should you want to take your dining experience that extra step further. Large bookings need only give 24 hours’ notice, making this top-notch Chinese restaurant the perfect place for special occasions.
