With Mam Tor, Lose Hill, Win Hill and the Great Ridge all within striking distance, The Old Hall Hotel is a Peak District-bound outdoor adventure seeker’s dream. Even so, the hotel has plenty to offer anyone lucky enough be paying its 16th-century premises a visit. The bustling shopping hubs of Manchester and Sheffield are both just an hour’s drive away, and elsewhere, the historic villages of picturesque Edale and Castleton can be reached in a matter of minutes by car. A traditional walker’s pub through and through, visitors can expect to fi nd a menu of exceptionally high-quality British fare supplemented by a range of specials that allow the chefs to experiment more widely. The Old Hall’s brilliant young kitchen team, headed up by Tom Mizon, takes a great deal of pride in the food they prepare daily, cherry-picking their produce from trusted local suppliers. The steak and ale pie is a firm favourite, and the team also offers a regularly changing special pie – look out for the venison. If you prefer seafood, plump for the pan-fried sea bass on creamy crayfish and samphire linguine. In winter, we recommend the popcorn pheasant with smoked paprika popcorn and sweet potato ketchup. The Old Hall Hotel is the perfect place to refuel.
