Set in the heart of Great Bowden, Welton’s deli and café can only be described as warm and welcoming. After ogling the tremendous selection of cheese and charcuterie displayed at the deli counter, we were shown to our table in the cosy conservatory dining room by owner Nicky.
The menu at Welton’s is uncomplicated and tasty. You’ll find every variation of all-day breakfast, light lunch and a superb selection of freshly baked cakes. Welton’s also offers afternoon tea from just £9.99 per person, which includes their highly recommended homemade scones and can be served with or without a glass of fizz. My partner opted for the huge ploughman’s lunch, which included two slabs of cheese, while I ordered the generously proportioned chicken and avocado salad dressed with delectable basil mayonnaise. We were so full that we couldn’t manage a dessert, opting instead for coffee and a hot chocolate, complete with lashings of cream and marshmallows. The desserts, however, looked scrumptious; we’ll definitely return to sample them in the future.
All meals are freshly prepared by one of three chefs who are on-site 364 days a year, and ingredients are locally sourced where possible. The service from friendly and knowledgeable staff combined with the wonderful food made our experience memorable. Welton’s exceeded our expectations; we can’t wait to return.
