The Three Swans Best Western Hotel
High Street, Market Harborough, LE16 7NJ
The elegant Three Swans Hotel sits on Market Harborough's High Street, and has served locals and visitors for five centuries. Its smart interior demonstrates well-judged, understated style, while the food in the restaurant speaks of quality. On a bitterly cold night, we were warmly welcomed by our hosts at The Swans Restaurant, who conjured the perfect antidote to any mid-winter chill at the cocktail bar. We were catered for attentively throughout, from the delicious canapés we enjoyed on arrival (including the stunning Brixworth paté), through to gourmet petits fours at the end of the evening. Our sea bass starter with pan-fried polenta and nutmeg foam was fresh and delicate, while the sticky duck pancakes with sesame and stir-fried pak choi were rich and smoky - just how I like them. These were followed by delicious pavé of beef fillet - complete with twice-baked cheese soufflé, sautéed spinach and peppercorn sauce - and the roasted corn-fed chicken with thyme rosti and wild Italian mushroom and truffle jus. To finish, a warm pear and frangipane tart with a scoop of vanilla ice cream really hit the spot. Inventive vegetarian specialities are also offered, including the highly recommended, melt-in-the-mouth Cheddar soufflé served with rosti and petit ratatouille, and a seasonal vegetarian strudel. The service, presentation and food were faultless - one visit and this superb restaurant is sure to become your retreat of choice.
