According to public records, Four Bells Inn has been welcoming guests for over 250 years. Having seen a number of different owners and managers over the years, Four Bells is now run by Craig and Gaynor Smith, who boast over 20 years’ experience in the service industry. Although it’s set in an idyllic rural location, this traditional country pub and restaurant is just half an hour’s drive from Nottingham, providing the ideal afternoon escape from the city.
Bring the whole family for lunch or dinner at Four Bells. With a dedicated children’s menu and a fantastic play area, the kids will be entertained for hours, and four-legged friends are welcome in the bar, lounge and garden area.
To start, check out the selection of small plates and starters. The beef croquettes are crisp and flavoursome and are complemented by spiced coleslaw and hickory barbecue sauce. Move on to the mains and relish the selection of classic British dishes. Vegetarians and vegans will love the beetroot and lentil burger with avocado salsa and vegan goat’s cheese, while meat-eaters won’t be able to resist the lure of pan-seared duck breast with fondant potatoes, braised carrots and plum jus. Other popular dishes include the sea bass fillet stuffed with spinach mousse and served with crisp skin, roast potatoes, fine beans, and white wine sauce, and spinach, wild mushroom and asparagus risotto, topped with a Parmesan crisp. If you’re a seafood-lover, why not stop by for mussels night on the last Wednesday of every month?
Earlier in the day, the lunch menu offers an equally impressive array of plates. Expect a range of light sandwiches as well as hot mains, including ale-battered cod and chips.
Finally, diners of all ages delight in choosing from Four Bells’ list of tempting puddings. The rich chocolate brownie is perfect for a weekend treat and the creamy lemon posset comes with fresh berry compote. The cheeseboard provides the perfect alternative to something sweet. Choose three of your favourite cheeses – the Wookey Hole cave-aged Cheddar is a firm favourite – and enjoy with a combination of biscuits, grapes and chutney.
