Built by Peter Nightingale in 1782, the Jug and Glass Inn is reputed to be the site of Florence Nightingale's first hospice. This Grade II listed inn, complete with five en-suite guest rooms, exudes rustic charm. We were pleased to find a menu featuring pub classics like pies and fish and chips as well as more adventurous dishes such as duck and sausage cassoulet. My partner started with rich chicken liver and Cointreau paté with red onion marmalade and crusty bread, while I tucked into crispy baked potato skins smothered with melted Cheddar and bacon. From the specials board, my companion then selected the creamy fisherman's pie, which contained generous chunks of lemon sole, salmon and prawns. I chose the aromatic kleftico - slow-cooked lamb infused with oregano and lemon - and was impressed by the tenderness of the meat. We rounded off with sticky toffee pudding and triple-chocolate mousse, both of which were truly heavenly and added a touch of indulgence to our meal
