The Red Lion
Pubs and Bars with Restaurants
We made ourselves comfortable in the intimate and cosy restaurant, which overlooks the multi-award-winning beer garden and boules court. Our attention was soon drawn away from the lovely view by the arrival of our fantastically presented starters: a large bowl of mussels in a white wine, cream, garlic and herb sauce with crusty bread for me, and a large woodland mushroom covered in mozzarella and served with a crisp salad for my companion. To follow, I plumped for the meaty cod fillet with fluffy new potatoes, juicy king prawns and a dill and cream sauce from the daily specials board. My partner tucked into the homemade chunky steak pie, which was full to the brim with tender and succulent meat and, like my main, came served with a generous selection of fresh steamed veg. Too full for dessert we instead finished with a walk in the nearby countryside. Next time we'll visit for their top-notch Sunday carvery - and perhaps treat ourselves to a stay in one of the beautifully decorated guest rooms.
