The Duke William
Owners Jane and Leslie took over The Duke William with a clear ambition to bring new life to Matlock. The pub blends the old and the new, with a 17th-century Grade II listed facade and a stylish new first-floor bar, the Ryebar, with views over nearby Riber Castle. The bar is already proving highly popular with a diverse clientele of regulars, and the downstairs bar and restaurant provides ample space to gather and enjoy delicious food.
The food is faultless, the menu comprising great British food and creative Continental dishes, plus a great Sunday carvery. We recommend an appetising starter such
as aromatic Ryebar pork ribs served in their signature sauce, paired with a pint of premium real ale or beer. Follow on with a succulent main course like golden chicken breast served on a sweet potato stack, topped with mild mustard sauce and fresh asparagus. The colourful vegetarian options will catch the eye of the most avid carnivore, and the dessert menu is too tempting to overlook.
The pub can cater for large groups and celebrations, and offers accommodation to those wishing to stay a while. The Duke William is a community hub that plays host to a large number of live music events – a recent refit included the construction of a sound-proofed recording studio, which is available to hire. An all-round winner with lots to offer and a relaxed, personable team of staff, this pub will quickly win you over.
