Stunning walks start and end at this traditional pub. Licensed since 1787, The Red Lion at Litton sits in a central spot overlooking the pretty village green. Landlady Jeanne and resident labrador Humphrey extend a warm welcome to all who visit. Inside this cosy little gem you’ll find stone floors, roaring fires and wood panelling, creating a comfortable and inviting atmosphere. There is an excellent selection of beer, and the pub has received Cask Marque-accreditation for its range of ale. Peak Ales’ Bakewell Best is a popular choice, as is the Abbeydale Absolution. The food menu showcases delicious homemade fare, and offers something to suit all palates. Pub classics such as steak and ale pie adorn the menu, as do grilled options like juicy lamb rump and beef short rib – both of which are sourced from an award-winning Derbyshire-based butcher. Homemade desserts include apple crumble with custard and an epic sticky toffee pudding. Understandably, the pub gets rather busy so it’s always best to book.

Drop in for the friendly music session on the second Tuesday of every month, or the fun charity quiz on the first Monday.

The Red Lion is a village hub, where locals and visitors alike drop by to while away the hours. Alternatively, guests can stay awhile longer in one of the luxury en-suite rooms and enjoy the tranquillity of this little Peak District haven.
