David Mellor Design Museum Café
Situated in one of the most beautiful parts of the Peak District National Park, the David Mellor Design Museum Café is a truly unique environment in which to relax and enjoy delicious homemade food.
A key figure in British design, David Mellor was widely known as the cutlery king. The café is situated on the same site as the Design Museum, Country Shop and award-winning Round Building cutlery factory, which visitors are invited to view on free weekend guided tours. The café itself faces towards the Round Building – a masterpiece of modern architecture. Sit amongst historic examples of Mellor’s work, including working sets of his traffi c lights, or enjoy the new paved outdoor seating area and soak up the peaceful woodland scenery.
The café specialises in excellent but unfussy British food and the menu changes daily and according to the seasons. Delicious lunches are made using mainly local produce and the café also serves speciality teas, fresh coffee and an irresistible selection of homemade cakes. Anyone with a passion for good food or good design will enjoy the experience. A visit to the Country Shop, which carries one of the best selections of kitchenware and tableware in the country, is also well worth a visit.
