A genuinely warm and friendly welcome awaits you at The Crispin Inn. My friend and I were greeted with a firm handshake from amiable landlord Paul Rowlinson; and after our drinks were ordered from the bar, we were shown to our table. Sitting in the cosy glow of a real coal fire, we felt right at home and took the time to glance round the charming interior of this traditional country pub. After choosing our meals from a wide selection on the large blackboard, our starters arrived. My baked Camembert was suitably gooey and full of flavour thanks to fresh rosemary and the subtlest hint of garlic. My companion opted for the crispy duck spring rolls served with a sweet chilli dipping sauce. The mini spring rolls were crisp and simply bursting with flavour and the homemade chilli sauce provided an added kick. For her main, my friend plumped for the huge beer-battered haddock with chips and mushy peas which she declared a British classic cooked to perfection. My chicken breast, stuffed with black pudding, wrapped in Parma ham and then baked, was a taste revelation - the delicious combination of chicken and black pudding worked really well and was suitably complemented by a rich roasted red pepper sauce. With food of this calibre in such delightful surroundings, a visit to The Crispin Inn is always a treat
