Ale aficionados take heed; the delightful Duke of York boasts a superb stock of local Robinsons cask ales and premium lagers, best enjoyed beside the roaring fire in winter or in one of their two beer gardens during summer. Here you'll find walkers, locals and those camping in the pub's campsite, as well as diners on the look-out for fine food.

This is where chef Ian is in his element - he is bursting with real passion for fresh produce and flavours. This means the menus here change with the seasons and at Ian's creative whim, but you may find yourself kicking off a meal with the likes of garlic mushrooms, homemade paté or Italian-style bruschetta. Hearty mains might include steak and Stilton pie, sirloin steak, mushroom stroganoff or a delicious mixed grill. Desserts are of a traditional ilk - gooey sticky toffee pudding with lashings of hot caramel sauce will transport you back to childhood and the seasonal fruit crumble might remind you of cooking with your nan but the taste will be a cut above. The Duke of York successfully strives to create that home-from-home comfort while serving high-quality, fresh cuisine.

A former coaching inn with a rich history, The Duke of York is host to more than just satisfied diners and friendly staff - there are rumours of at least three ghosts within its walls. That's hardly surprising considering the building has been in existence since the 1400s
