The Yew Tree Inn & Lodges
Since taking over The Yew Tree Inn & Lodges in March 2017, Sharon and Ronan Kerlo have certainly made an impression on the locality. Music events have become a regular fixture, and their gin and pizza night was so popular that they ran out of dough.
They evidently take great pride in their suppliers, ensuring everything is fresh and of the highest quality. They source freshly landed fish from Nottingham Seafood and quality meat from Nigel’s Butchers in Ashbourne, desserts from Leicester pastry chef Dominic North, and wine from Swadlincote wholesaler Colombier Wines. When we arrived, Sharon pulled us a pint – Blue Moon for me and a Littleover-brewed beer for my partner – before showing us into the wood-panelled dining room. I opted for a starter of fresh whitebait served with moreish garlic mayonnaise. My partner chose delicate crab and avocado salad. Our mains were buttery, flaky hake atop beans and chorizo, and the succulent gourmet burger with crispy paprika onion rings. Portions at The Yew Tree are generous but we still had room for delicious Bluebell Dairy ice cream and an exquisite lime meringue pie.
As well as serving fabulous food, Sharon and Ronan have brought warmth and life aplenty to this much-loved local. They even have rooms, which are perfect for those heading to nearby Alton Towers.
