The Ashford Arms
Traditional

This traditional country inn can be found in the heart of the village of Ashford in the Water and offers a warm welcome to all. Inside, oak beams and Derbyshire stone walls add to its cosy charm, while outside, a large garden beckons in warm weather. The light and airy conservatory is also a favourite spot in which to enjoy lunch or dinner, and for those wishing to stay longer, eight en-suite bedrooms are available. Dining at The Ashford Arms is a treat for locals and visitors alike.
Award-winning owner and head chef Rob Muxlow is well known for his Sunday lunches and, in particular, his enormous Yorkshire puddings. Throughout the week, diners can choose from themed menus including sizzle and griddle, farmhouse pie night and steak night.
When we called in, we sampled the melt-in-the-mouth fillet steak and delicious Barbary duck breast gently roasted in orange and ginger sauce. Other tempting dishes include the delicious rainbow trout filled with fresh prawns and mushrooms in a lemon, dill and white wine sauce, and a mouth-watering selection of burgers. Vegetarians are spoilt for choice at The Ashford Arms with dishes like the three cheese pasta bake served with a rich mushroom sauce, and goat’s cheese and spinach tart accompanied by tomato and basil sauce. We’d recommend working up an appetite before you visit as The Ashford Arms serves satisfyingly hearty portions, and with such tempting options you’ll want to leave room for pudding. To round off our lovely meal, our choice of indulgent chocolate fudge brownie cheesecake scored top points. If that doesn’t tickle your fancy, why not treat yourself to a moreish cherry Bakewell cheesecake, or homemade apple pie with custard? A fantastic selection of beverages can be found at the well-stocked bar, including several local cask ales. Conveniently located just two miles from Bakewell, The Ashford Arms is perfectly situated for a spot of relaxation following a day spent exploring the surrounding areas. There are many reasons to visit this idyllic British pub, so be sure to stop by.
