White’s is owned by warm and welcoming husband-and-wife team Robert and Jo. Managing a friendly and efficient team of staff with ease, their presence adds a personal touch to proceedings, ensuring drinkers, diners and those staying overnight feel right at home.
The simple menu is complemented by a frequently changing specials board, from which I chose my starter of scallops and squid in a Thai-style salad. The seafood was perfectly cooked, the salad was crisp and fragrant, and the dressing completed the dish. My partner opted for gooey Camembert baked with garlic and thyme, served with a generous portion of fresh bread. Our main course comprised beautifully prepared hake and mussels in creamy caper sauce, and a generous fillet steak, accompanied by all of the expected trimmings. Both were a delight to behold and devour. We thought it would be rude not to sample from the selection of puddings. I indulged in a decadent chocolate brownie, while my companion opted for the lighter coconut ice lolly.
Cocktails are a speciality at White’s. The tempting array includes the sweet Sloe Gin Fizz, creamy White Russian and the crowd-pleasing Mojito. I’ll definitely be returning soon to enjoy more of the selection, and experience White’s winning hospitality once more.
