The Coach House Bar & Restaurant
Just north of Ashbourne, you’ll find one of the most relaxing places to stay in the Peak District. The Coach House stands at the centre of Sandybrook Country Park, in a listed building that boasts wonderful south-facing views and a central courtyard for al fresco dining.
My partner and I were warmly welcomed and guided through the restaurant to a seating booth overlooking the courtyard. We began with a sharing selection, and received a bountiful platter of plump prawns, langoustines, crispy onion rings and crunchy salad, accompanied by creamy homemade tartare sauce. I followed with one of the chef’s daily specials: pan-fried halibut with buttered spinach, sautéed potatoes, and cured ham wrapped around French beans. This proved a delicious main course, beautifully presented and with an exquisite balance of flavours and ingredients. My partner opted for the vegetarian three bean chilli served on a bed of fluffy rice with tortilla chips, an artistically presented dish bursting with flavour and freshness.
Dessert provided a memorable close to the evening. We stepped out into the courtyard and a warm summer’s night to share an irresistibly rich sticky toffee pudding with homemade custard and fresh strawberries. I cannot recommend The Coach House Bar & Restaurant highly enough – it is an essential destination for a great meal in the Derbyshire countryside.
