Devour delicious local fare at this charming café and deli run by Tim and Tracey Bramhall, located in Ashbourne's historic market square.

This elegant yet relaxed café offers fresh, seasonal dishes featuring locally sourced produce wherever possible. Doubting Thomases need only look to the menu to observe an impressive inventory of local suppliers. I tried the velvety-smooth roast garlic and butternut squash soup from the specials board, artistically served with a drizzle of fresh cream and boasting a delicious natural sweetness. Next, you could give the crispy smoked haddock and Parmesan fishcakes a whirl, or pick the deli plate and choose three items from the deli to be served with a bucket of soft bread. Speciality cheeses such as the mature and fruity Snowdonia Blackbomber and rich, creamy D'Argental sheep's cheese (with just a hint of blue) are also a must. These can be served with sweet pickled onions and piquant bell peppers - highly recommended. We also squeezed in a deliciously rich and treacly chocolate and pecan tart which ensured a spectacular finish. Meanwhile at the deli counter, exquisite cheeses and specialist meats surround the discerning shopper. Shelves groan with tempting treats and friendly, knowledgeable staff are close at hand. Assured of quality provenance from a host of well-labelled products, you have every reason to be adventurous and try a new delicacy.
