The Griffin Inn
Set in the charming village of Swithland and nestled amid woodland, The Griffin Inn is a handsome 17th-century building with a rich history, and a stylish interior and excellent food that bring the pub right up to date.
The staff at The Griffin Inn pride themselves on their hospitality and will always provide a warm welcome to visitors. Focused on high-quality seasonal ingredients, the menu here brings a modern note to traditional fare and is bound to please, whatever the time of year. You could expect to enjoy starters such as mussels in Somerset cider and parsley cream, or deep-fried tofu with coconut satay dip for a vegan option. The mains are varied and all equally tempting; spiced butternut squash and baby spinach risotto with parsnip crisps, and venison, wild mushroom and ale pie are just two of many delectable dishes. There’s also a children’s main menu, so nobody has to miss out. If you still have room after all that delicious food, you’ll be spoilt for choice by the dessert menu, with options such as pear and Swithland honey tarte Tatin, and white chocolate brownie. For those with a more savoury palate, the English cheeseboard with homemade chutney and oatcakes is sure to please. The Griffin also provides an extensive light bites menu that’s perfect when you’re calling in for lunch with friends.
The pub has recently branched out, introducing Odd John’s Kitchen café and deli. Driven by a passion for community and local suppliers, Odd John’s is jampacked with delicious artisan produce, giving you the chance to sample the best regional food either on-site in their open kitchen-café or to take away and enjoy at home.
There’s always something going on, with events taking place throughout the year. In the summer you can relax in the al fresco area, while in the winter it’s best to warm yourself by the cosy fire. The attached Old Stables is an attractive function suite used to cater for weddings and parties, so whatever your occasion or reason for visiting, you’re guaranteed excellent food, drinks and surroundings.
